I believe that there is a lot of *interest* in community quality interests, but even more obstacles to progress in communities than in companies. Any experience I have relates to the UK, and may not apply elsewhere. For example, the BDA is involved with a number of schools, but the education is tightly regulated here, and many bad ideas are compulsory: eg league tables of results in different schools. I am involved directly with a Service Transformation Network for Police forces in the UK. The first meeting will be in Birmingham on October 4th. This is the result of a great deal of effort by Mark Sheasby of the West Midlands Police force. The main progress so far is to get a few forces to see the uses of Control Charts, with consequent ability to recognise tampering. But pay for performance, with all the harm it does, is enforced by the government. There have been some interesting examples of improvements in processes, but nothing that could be called a break-through as yet. So there is nothing much to report, which is why I have kept quiet. But these things take time.
