EOTC 'Critical Issues' Workshop http://www.eotc.be/eotcevents.htm ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Following the success of the EOTC Marking Workshop held in March 1999 and the follow up Marking Discussion Forum, EOTC will host a second Marking 2000 Workshop in Brussels during the 13th and 14th of September, 2000. The EOTC Marking Discussion Forum was established under the convenorship of Dr Harry Gundlach, after the 1999 EOTC Marking Workshop. This group, working by via a Internet Discussion Forum, involved commentary from over 150 people in 29 countries, and led to a report by Dr Gundlach. The purpose of this one and a half day Workshop is to consider the Report of the Working Group, the current highly varied world and European situation and to highlight the most serious issues raised. The Commission has since conducted an in-depth review and assessment of the implementation and practical application of the Directive. A report on the main findings of this review is being presented separately to the European Parliament and the Council. Improvements in consumer health and safety represent are one of the political priorities announced by the Commission. This proposal is framed within the actions intended to achieve this objective. An outline of the proposal was presented at the last EOTC 'Market Surveillance' Workshop by Mr Erik Hansson, the Deputy Head of Unit A4, EC DG Sanco (Health and Consumer Protection). The Congress is based on the theme of using quality as a bridge to global competition. As a result, CEN is organising a seminar on the 10th of October, 2000 in Brussels. The 1st half of the day will focus on analytical methods for detecting genetically modified organisms (GMO's) and screening methods for detection of irradiated food. The 2nd half of the day will focus on the way new instruments can safeguard confidence in food safety monitoring with diverse issues. Conference, which is a joint undertaking by the TUTB - Trade Union Technical Bureau for Health and Safety and SALTSA - The Joint Programme for Working Life Research in a European Perspective. Too little is known about the health effects of organisational changes, but their impacts on the mental and physical well-being of workers can readily be imagined.
