I would add, "... and are recognized for the work they
do." In fact, I would state that the peer recognition is a greater
factor. Take, for example, the soldier. I know few that truly 'enjoy'
killing and war. Yet, many will risk everything and more given the
effect and results upon their peers. The medal at the end means next to
nothing; however, the admiration and gratitude of their peers means a
tremendous amount (speaking as one who has been in that position).
In a more civil position, many people I have known who
left a truly enjoyable job, did so for two reasons: 1) more money and;
2) I'm not appreciated for what I do...
